About Us

"Our mission is to make hiking more understandable and accessible for beginners, and to help seasoned hikers get even more out of their experiences."

The Devil’s Bridge Trail where we first met

Hey there! We’re Lukas and Martha Heller, the heart and soul behind Bigfoot Hiking. Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, the desert was our first love. The sprawling landscapes and rugged terrains taught us resilience and instilled in us a sense of adventure that we carry in our hearts to this day.

Our story started on a trail in Sedona, Arizona, where we met for the first time. We were both solo hikers back then, each on our own journey to discover the wonders of the great outdoors. Little did we know, our paths were about to intertwine in a way that would change our lives forever.

Since tying the knot in 2015, we’ve embarked on over 100 hikes around the globe. From the misty mountains of New Zealand to the lush forests of the Pacific Northwest, each trail has been a teacher, offering lessons in perseverance, wonder, and the simple joy of stepping one foot in front of the other.

Running Bigfoot Hiking has been our way of sharing these lessons with the world. We remember how daunting those first steps can feel – the uncertainty of not being fit enough, of not having the right gear, or of simply getting lost. That’s why our mission has always been twofold: to make hiking more understandable and accessible for beginners, and to help seasoned hikers get even more out of their experiences.

The Milford Track in New Zealand is the farthest trail we’ve been on

When we’re not on the trail or crafting our next blog post, you might find us exploring local vegan eateries (we’re both suckers for a good plant-based meal) or jamming out to our favorite tunes. Our love for the outdoors is matched only by our passion for living life to the fullest, no matter where we are.

So, whether you’re a seasoned hiker looking for your next challenge or a complete beginner wondering where to start, we’re here for you. We hope to inspire, guide, and walk alongside you as you embark on your own journey of discovery. Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that the trail is open to everyone, and every step is a step towards finding your best self.

Thanks for dropping by and see you on the trail!
